Provision for Learning
Our educational practice is based on the understanding that:
- children have an innate motivation to learn which can be nurtured by the right educational approach
- play is a key way in which children learn with enjoyment and challenge
- experiences in nature are vital for healthy childhood development
The children's learning experiences outdoors are spontaneous responses to the season, the weather, our discoveries and the children's interests.
Indoors and in the garden we provide activities in which the children express their creativity, such as drawing and painting; making collages; modelling and constructing; and making and moving to music.
We aim to foster a sense of care and responsibility in our kindergartens through adults and children working together. Our jobs may be to sweep the floor, water plants, fold towels or wipe and set the table.
Each term we have a visitor from another part of the world sharing their culture and language with us.
The Role of the Educators
The role of the educators is to:
- ensure the safety and physical well-being of each child
- endeavour to meet each child's emotional needs by being observant, reflective, sensitive and affectionate
- provide challenging and enjoyable learning experiences
- help the children to learn to consider the needs other children
- encourage the children to develop positive attitudes to meeting challenges, solving problems and handling risks
- support the children's learning by stimulating, sustaining and extending their thinking
- support the children in gaining new understandings through their experiences, by reflecting upon them and seeing connections in their learning
- communicate with the parents about their child's learning and development, and contribute to establishing and maintaining an ongoing dialogue about how to best support their child
